Wolverines end losing streak to Titans
GRAETTINGER — The West Bend-Mallard girls ended a long streak of losses to Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire with a 55-30 win over the Titans on Tuesday.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 16-3 lead in the first quarter and led 28-13 at halftime before outscoring the hosts 22-2 in the third quarter. West Bend-Mallard hasn’t beaten GT/RA since Graettinger-Terril and Ruthven-Ayrshire began sharing girls basketball in 2011.
In Tuesday’s game, GT/RA had 32 turnovers in the game compared to 23 for West Bend-Mallard.
Kate Sorenson led GT/RA with nine points while going 5-of-5 from the free throw line. She also had six rebounds and two steals. Mercedes DePyper had six points, Josi Reiman had five, Adri Kriger had four, Mackenzie Hoffman and Madison Fay each had three.
Rachel Fehr led the Wolverines with 15 points and seven steals.
GT/RA (1-1 overall) is at Emmetsburg on Friday before hosting MMCRU on Saturday.
The GT/RA boys defeated West Bend-Mallard 42-28. Stats were unavailable Wednesday.
