Hansen paces ELC at Spencer tourney
Freshman places third; Paulson, Martin place fourth
SPENCER — In the first non-dual tournament for Estherville Lincoln Central this year, the Midgets placed ninth at the Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament hosted by Spencer on Saturday.
Austin Hansen (106) led ELC with a third-place finish. He suffered his first loss of the season by fall to Spencer’s Gabe Cauthron in the semifinal, but wrestled his way back, winning by technical fall 16-1, over LeMars’ Connor Peterson in the third-place match.
Will Martin (126) and Garrett Paulson (182) both placed fourth.
Martin lost in the quarterfinal, but pinned his way back to the third-place match where he lost by fall to Spencer’s Kade Johnson.
Paulson lost in the semifinal and came back with a pin to get to the third-place match. There, he lost 5-3 in sudden victory to Ayden Hoag of LeMars.
Eli Hanson (160) went 2-2 on the day and placed fifth and Raul Diaz (160) went 3-2 and finished sixth. Quintin Marquez was 2-1 and placed seventh. Zack Anderson was 1-3 and placed eighth.
Nick Lyman (220) was the only other ELC wrestler at the meet and he did not place.
ELC returns to action in 2021 in a Lakes Conference double dual with Spencer and Cherokee at Cherokee on Jan. 7.
In the junior varsity tournament held Friday in Spencer, Parker Duitsman placed first, Isaac Reineke, Brigham Vermeys, and Jess Christensen each finished second, Alex Sheridan and Cade Crees both finished third and Ryan Leonard placed fourth.
