ELC Boys win over E-Hawks

Tied 50-50 at halftime, the Estherville Lincoln Central boys erupted for 26 fourth-quarter points to defeat Emmetsburg 76-64 on Tuesday.

The win gives ELC a winning record, 4-3, entering the holiday break.

Emmetsburg had the hot hand at the start of the game. The E’Hawks hit three 3-pointers in the opening minutes to jump out to an 13-2 lead.

A 3-pointer by ELC’s Adrian Vaughn, who finished with a game-high 18 points, halted the run.

ELC fought back to within four, 15-11, after a basket by Matt Christensen. However, Emmetsburg scored the final basket of the period to lead 17-11.

The Midgets heated up in the second quarter. A basket by Will Larson sparked an 11-2 ELC run that included another basket by Christensen and a pair of floaters in the lane by Ryan Schiltz. Vaughn’s second trey of the night, gave ELC its first lead, 22-19 with 4:30 left in the half.

The E’Hawks answered immediately with back-to-back treys to retake the lead, but ELC stormed back and led 32-30 at the break.

The third quarter evened things out for the E’Hawks to tie the game at 50-50.

However, all ELC’s shots started falling, as the Midgets led by as many as 14 to pull out the victory.

Vaughn had five rebounds and two assists to go with his 18 points, all off the bench. He shot 7-of-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3-point range.

ELC shot 55 percent (31-of-56) from the field and 40 percent (6-of-15) from 3-point range.

Five other players reached double digits for the Midgets.

Schiltz finished with 15 points and four assists while Larson had 14 points and five rebounds. Christensen finished with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds while Owen Larson had 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Kevin Egeland and Octavious Piercy-Maze each had four points.

ELC returns to action in 2021 with a Lakes Conference matchup against Storm Lake on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
