ELC girls win over Emmetsburg – a team effort
A fast start by the Estherville Lincoln Central girls put visiting Emmetsburg in a hole the E’Hawks couldn’t get out of on Tuesday.
Starting with a Jasey Anderson 3-pointer, ELC’s shot consistently fell, as ELC built a 20-6 first-quarter lead. ELC kept on the pressure on the way to a 37-18 halftime advantage. Emmetsburg played nearly even in the third quarter, but ELC led 48-30 after three and won 59-36.
“This is the first time in the past few games that our shots have fallen in the first quarter,” said ELC coach Don Martindale. We had three players in double digits again and we’re sharing the ball real well. It’s nice to go into break with a win.”
Martindale was also happy with his defense.
“I’m pleased with how our defense is progressing,” he said.
ELC shot 52.6 percent (20-of-38) for the game including 47 percent (8-of-17) from 3-point range.
Jaydan Nitchals led all scorers with 19 points along with four rebounds and two assists. Jordyn Stokes had 13 points, four assists and two steals while Kaitlyn Tendal had 11 points, four steals and three assists. Anderson chipped in eight points and Amara Heinrichs had six points and four rebounds. Gabby Paul had two points.
ELC (7-1 overall) returns to action in 2021 hosting Storm Lake on Tuesday, Jan. 5.
