ELC ends skid with win over Okoboji

Vaughn scores 24 to lead Midgets

Central boys ended a fourgame

skid with a 74-55

victory over Okoboji on

Saturday. The win came on

the heels of a 48-44 loss to

Emmetsburg on Thursday,

as the E’Hawks rallied with

a 19-8 fourth quarter.

Saturday’s win against

Okoboji saw the Midgets

shooting get back on track.

While the Pioneers had the

hot hand early, taking a 20-

16 lead after one quarter,

ELC came back to win the

second quarter for a 32-31

edges at halftime.

ELC dominated the final

two periods and led 56-44

to start the final frame.

Adrian Vaughn scored

a season-high 24 points,

going 11-of-16 from the

field, including 2-of-7 from

3-point range.

Will Larson was brought

off the bench and he finished

with 17 points on 5-of-

7 shooting. Owen Larson

shot 6-of-10 from the field

and finished with 13 points.

Ryan Schiltz and Matt

Christensen each chipped in

eight points and Kevin Egeland

had four. Owen Larson

had seven assists and six

steals while Egeland had six

assists and four rebounds.

Jaden Heller led Okoboji

with 13 points.

After beating Emmetsburg

76-64 in December, Thursday’s

rematch saw both

teams struggle to score. The

E”Hawks led 7-6 after one

quarter and 19-18 at halftime.

ELC dominated the third

with Owen Larson scoring

10 of his game-high 13

points in the period, as ELC

took a 36-29 lead into the

final period.

The Midgets couldn’t get

the shots to fall in the final

frame, as Emmetsburg slowly

chipped at the lead, tying

the game at 41-41 with 3

minutes remaining and taking

the lead on a 3-pointer

by Lex Kassel.

Vaughn was the only other

ELC player in double digits

with 10 points while Ryan

Schiltz had seven, Will Larson

and Jack Jensen each

had four, and Matt Christensen,

Octavious Piercy-

Maze, and Egeland each

had two points.

ELC (7-8 overall) travels

to Cherokee (7-7) on Tuesday.

In junior varsity play,

ELC defeated Emmetsburg

50-26 on Thursday. Tristan

Howard led the Midgets

with 14 points and Carson

Grange and Logan Nissen

each had 12 points.

On Saturday, Blake Ingvall

scored 20 points in a

63-47 win over Okoboji.

Nissen had 13 points, Grant

Love had 10, Howard had

seven, Jack Jensen had six,

Daryl Jensen had five, and

Blake Evans had two.
