Wolverines hang on to end Warriors’ season
WEST BEND — Cutting a 12-point lead to one, the North Union boys nearly extended their season another game on Friday while picking up their third win of the season. However, West Bend-Mallard made a key stop and made free throws to seal a 50-45 victory and end the Warriors’ season.
Gage Madden, who led North Union with 18 points hit the basket that cut the lead to one, 46-45, with 28 seconds left in the game. West Bend-Mallard’s Sam Fehr then made one of two free throws, as the Warriors trailed 47-45.
The Warriors had a chance to tie the game or take the lead, but turned the ball over. The Wolverines’ Noah Gerber converted a one-and-one to push the lead to four. After a three-point miss by Madden, Fehr hit another free throw with 2 seconds remaining to complete the win.
Madden had seven rebounds to go with his 18 points. Nick Schiltz had 12 points while Carter Anderson had six points and eight rebounds. Jay Heinen had four points, Teagon Fothergill had three and Logan Odegaard had two.
North Union wraps up a 2-19 campaign. Seniors suiting up for their final time were Luke Schmidt, Gage Madden and Carter Anderson.
