Lakers Mitchell Williamson wins HWT conference title

COUNCIL BLUFFS
— Led by Mitchell
Williamson’s title at 285
pounds, the Iowa Lakes
wrestlers finished fifth at the
ICCAC Tournament hosted
by Iowa Western on Sunday.
Ranked third, Williamson
defeated fourth-ranked
Jorden Pryor from Iowa
Central 2-1 in the title
match.
“Mitchell didn’t get to his
offense like we wanted but
he did wrestle a solid match
and was able to come home
with the championship,”
said Iowa Lakes coach Cody
Alesch. “Mitchell has really
battled a lot of injuries
again this season and fighting
through some currently
so it was good to see him
go out and compete at the
level he wants to. He and I
both know he is not where
he needs to be yet but we
are getting there. He has
one goal this season and this
was a good step towards a
National Title. Our conference
is extremely tough and
good preparation for us as
we look ahead to nationals.”
Massoma Endene fell
short in his 174-pound finals
match, 15-5, to Jose
Rodriguez from Iowa
Central.
“Massoma got an early
takedown then struggled to
get back to his offense,” said
Alesch. ” It was a coachable
moment for Massoma really.
He has been wrestling
really well and sometime
matches like this are a blessing
in disguise. He can step
back and see what he needs
to get better at and tune up
before nationals. He needed
that match and a lot of good
will come from it as we get
back in the room this week.”
Other Laker wrestlers
placing were Karsten
Johnson taking third at 125
pounds, Jeremiah Boykins
took fourth at 133 pounds,
Jovanni Butler placed fourth
at 157 pounds.
