Cherokee wins 5-4 over ELC in first Lakes dual

The Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Tennis Team hosted its first home meet on Monday, falling short against visiting Cherokee 5-4.

ELC picked up just two singles victories. At the No. 4 singles, Grace Johnson won 10-2 over Meredith Lovell while Kaitlyn Pollock won at the No. 6 singles, 10-7 over Paris Mendez. In other singles play, Abby Sander lost 10-6 to Kalina Schubert, Kya Thiel lost 10-4 to Kenna Mongan, Brenna Evans lost 10-5 to Sarah Messler, and Claire Brandt lost 10-6 to Parissa Fredricksen.

In doubles, Sander and Thiel won at the No. 1 slot, 10-7 over Mongan and Messler. At the No. 3 singles, Johnson and Olson won 10-4 over Lovell and Mendez. In the other doubles match, Evans and Brandt lost 10-6 to Schubert and Fredricksen.

ELC swept three junior varsity matches.

In singles, Grace Ruschy won 8-1 over Allison Gunn and Carly Grange won 8-1 over Allison Daum. In doubles, Ruschy and Grange won 8-2 over Gunn and Daum.

ELC’s Tuesday match against Storm Lake was rescheduled for April 16. The Midgets are scheduled to play at LeMars today.
