LAKE MILLS — North Union junior Bryer Prochniak had a break-out game Friday. The 6-0, 175-pound running back rushed for 266 yards on 18 carries with five touchdowns, as the Warriors defeated Lake Mills 44-12 on Friday.
The previous week, North Union watched Saint Ansgar rally in the fourth quarter. Against Lake Mills, the Warriors shut down the Bulldogs on their homecoming night in the final two periods. Leading 22-12 at half-time, North Union outscored the hosts 22-0 in the second half.
In the first half, Prochniak scored on runs of 72 and 5 yards with Carter Morphew also completeing a 24-yard touchdown pass to Aidan Fries.
The second half was all Prochniak, as he scored on runs of 20, 59 and 27 yards.
Morphew scored two two-point conversions while Prochniak and Fries each scored one.
On the ground, Morphew carried the ball eight times for 92 yards and Landon Hagedorn had 52 yards on four carries.
Morphew finished 8-of-12 passing for 81 yards and no interceptions. Fries caught five passes for 44 yards and Prochniak had three catches for 37 yards.
North Union won the turnover battle, creating five turnovers with Prochniak snagging two interceptions and recovering two fumbles while Fries also recovered a fumble.
North Iowa moved the ball well, but the turnovers didn’t help. The Bison finished with 178 yards on the ground and 179 through the air.
Leading the North Union defense, Kaleb Lufkin had seven tackles while Aric Arndorfer had 6.5, and Hagedorn and Christian Bierstedt each had six.
North Union (2-2 overall) is on the road against top-ranked West Hancock (4-0) this Friday in Britt. The Eagles are coming off a 55-6 win over West Fork.
