Funeral services for Darlene Mae Barber, 83, of Estherville, will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Thomas Marth officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She passed away on June 15, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, June 18, at the funeral chapel in Estherville.

Darlene Mae Barber was born on September 21, 1937, in Bancroft, Iowa, to Les and Marie (Haack) Denton.

Darlene graduated from Seneca High School. She was united in marriage to Russel Barber on February 14, 1960 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City, Iowa. Darlene and Russel made their home in Estherville.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville, where she was active in the lady’s guild. Darlene was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Estherville. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and camping. Spending time with her family and grandchildren were especially important to Darlene. Baking and cooking brought her great joy.

Darlene is survived by her husband Russel of Estherville; her children: Diane (Jeff) Hummel of Mason City, Russel Barber, Jr of Rockford, Darla (Scott) Goecke of Estherville, and Becky Barber of Clear Lake; five grandsons Jason (Jenn Helland) Hummel, Nathan (Megan) Hummel, Jeremy (Audrey) Hummel, Justin (Roxie Olszanowski) Goecke and Phillip (fiance Alexis Hatfield) Goecke; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Roger (Frances) Denton of Bancroft, and sisters-in-law Vivian Denton of Fairmont, MN, Marlis Moe of Algona, and Geneva Hovey of Titonka.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Rhonda, sister Lavonne (Alvin) Doesken, brother Darold Denton, and several brothers and sisters in law.
