Funeral services for Denise Johnson, 69, of Wallingford, will be held at 11 a.m., today, Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Joel Sadler officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Valley View Cemetery, Graettinger. She passed away surrounded by her family on Feb. 8, 2025, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.
Denise J Johnson was born on August 22, 1955, in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Wayne and Loretta (Galvin) Haukoos.
At a young age Denise moved to Estherville with her family and graduated from Estherville High School. She obtained her Associate of Arts Degree from Iowa Lakes Community College. On August 22, 1975, she was united in marriage to Terry L. Johnson in Estherville. The couple made their home in rural Emmet County. Denise worked at EPS in Graettinger for many years as a delivery driver, she retired in 2022.
Denise is a member of the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. She enjoyed being outdoors: going trail riding with the horses, fishing, and deer hunting. She was honored to be a part of the Pony Express and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. Denise served as a board member and secretary for IGLSC.
Denise had a kind heart and soul; she wouldn’t hesitate to give herself to help others. She was literally a life saver for others, over the years she has donated over 18 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.
Denise is survived by her husband of 49 years Terry of Wallingford; her mother Loretta Haukoos of Estherville; her children Jennifer (Kevin) Long of Ringsted, Jason (Heather) Johnson of West Bend, and Curt (Amy) Brosh of West Bend; her grandchildren Kolten Long, Haley Johnson, Weston Long, Braxton Long, Kylee Ford, Owen Brosh, and Landon Brosh; her great-grand-daughter Brynleigh Long; her siblings Doreen (Kenny) Spoo of Hartley, Darla (Mike) Pytleski of Gruver, David (Michelle) Haukoos of Sioux Falls, and DeEtta Koen of Estherville.
Denise is preceded in death by her father Wayne Haukoos, her sister Debra Cox, and her nephew Kyle Van Cleave.
