Dolores Zitterich

Posted

Dolores Yvonne Zitterich, daughter of Edward and Helen (Parsons) Lyle, was born on January 3, 1930, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Dolores passed away on February 26, 2024, at the age of 94 at the Spencer Hospital. A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Henry Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Burial took place at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville.

Dolores moved with her family in 1933 to Estherville. She graduated from Estherville High School. She was united in marriage to Walter Zitterich on March 18, 1947, in Sanborn, Minn. Both Dolores and Wally were hard workers and provided a good life for themselves and their four children in Estherville. They built three different homes in the area; Dolores took pride in how she decorated each one to match their style.

Dolores was an office deputy for Emmet County Sheriff’s office for 29 years, serving under five different sheriffs. She also worked as a ticket taker at the Grand Theatre. Walter passed away on April 26, 1989, Dolores continued to live in Estherville until 1995, when she moved to Spencer.

Dolores enjoyed spending time and having fun with her family. Especially her grandchildren, as her eyes lit up whenever any of them were around. Road trips to Colorado created many fond memories. She was a member of the Red Hat Lady Society. Her beloved dog Charlie was by her side for many years. She was talented with a needle and thread, creating many outfits for her children and grandchildren. She and Wally enjoyed roller skating together and were excellent skate dancers. After Wally’s passing, she enjoyed dancing with her very special friend and partner Bob Soucek every weekend for almost 30 years. They would even entertain residents at area nursing homes with their ballroom and country dancing skills.

Dolores is survived by her children Kenton (Wendy) Zitterich, “the Happy Wanderers”, Kevin (Sue) Zitterich of Estherville, Kymm (Tim) Jones of Milford, and Kelli (Fred) Nichols of Greeley, Colorado; six grandchildren: Tonya, Brandon, Moriah, Tanner, Tiffany, and Trent; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Darryl Lyle, sister Marlys Rogers, dancing partner Bob Soucek, and Charlie.
