Funeral services for Donald Richard, 93, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020, at First Christian Church in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Interment will be at High Lake Cemetery, Wallingford, at a later date. He passed away at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville on Feb. 24
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday at the church.
Donald James "Don" Richard, son of Albert and Ethel (Klein) Richard, was born on Jan. 26, 1927, in Estherville, Iowa.
Don attended and graduated from Estherville High School before working on the family farm. He married Marjorie Smith on Dec. 31, 1947, at the First Christian Church, Estherville. To this union four sons were born: Larry, Jim, Bruce and Dave. Don lived and farmed in the Wallingford area all his life. Marge passed away on Oct. 16, 1995. Don continued to live on the farm until moving to Windsor Manor in Estherville in 2015. In May of 2019, he became a resident of Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, the ELKS, and Farm Bureau. In his free time, Don could be found playing cribbage or rummy, or dancing with Marge. Don also enjoyed his annual Canadian Fishing trips.
He is survived by his sons, Larry (Connie) Richard, Jim (Diane) Richard, Bruce Richard, and Dave (Connie) Richard, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, his brother, Wayne (Norma) Richard and good friend, Betty Dawson.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Richard, and his parents, Albert and Ethel (Klein) Richard, and good friend, Darlene Logan.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Avera@Home Hospice or First Christian Church of Estherville.
