Private family funeral services for Edward F. Ahrens, 99, of Estherville will be held at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Thomas Marth officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville, with military honors by VFW Post #3388 and American Legion Post #91, both of Estherville. He passed away at Good Samaritan Society in Estherville on Dec. 31, 2020.

Edward Fred Ahrens, was born on March 22, 1921 on the family farm in rural Estherville to Edward and Maria (Mohr) Ahrens. Ed attended country school. He was drafted into the United States Army on December 18, 1942. He served during WWII. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945. Upon his return home he began farming. He was united in marriage to Patricia Kelly in 1948. Ed continued to farm until 1970, upon that time they moved into town. He started a laundromat called Wash All Laundry.

Ed was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He also enjoyed researching his genealogy.

Left to cherish Ed’s memory are his children, Kathryn Kintzle; Jim Ahrens; Tom (Beverly) Ahrens; Bill (Linda) Ahrens; Dennis Ahrens; Tim (Trudy) Ahrens; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; infant stillborn son, Steven; brothers, Herman Ahrens and Carl Ahrens; sisters, Ruth Senne, Pauline Ahrens, and twin-sister, Marie Tirevold.
