Edwin Franklin Hampson, 97, passed away on April 12, 2021, in Valparaiso, Ind. Ed was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Ruthven, Iowa, to Thomas Lee Hampson and Emma Bergum Hampson.Though underage, Ed joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Northwest Iowa in order to send money to his family during the Great Depression. He then “rode the rails” along the SW border, working in the fields along the way. While in the Army Air Corps in Wisconsin in 1943, he met and married Rosemary Hubert from Chicago, with whom he was married until her passing in 2013. Ed was a milkman in Gary, Ind., for 20 years. He then became District Sales Manager for Landshire Sandwiches in Kouts, Ind., until retiring in 1982.

Ed was a member of American Legion Post 94 and United Methodist Church, both of Valparaiso and a life-long member of the Valparaiso Lion’s Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alfred, sisters Irene Detert and Verna Marie Herem, daughter Rosemary Riley, son James Hampson, and granddaughter Amy Rose Riley Frieden. Ed is survived by son Thomas (Grace Rocio Martinez), great grandson Dane Frieden, nieces Phylis Hofer, Carole Nylander, Gloria Bailey, Donna Wollum and nephew Dale Detert and cousin Bonnie Bedient.

Ed’s ashes are interred at Angel Crest Cemetery, Valparaiso, Ind.
