ELC rally falls short

NEWELL — The Estherville Lincoln Central boys had 18 more shots than host Newell-Fonda, but the Mustangs were more efficient and fended off a late Midget rally to win 68-64 last Thursday, Jan. 13.

ELC trailed by just two, 15-13, after one quarter, and four, 31-27, at halftime.

Newell-Fonda stretched its lead to 10, 62-52 by the start of the final frame.

ELC tried to make a run, but couldn’t close the gap.

ELC shot 44 percent (24-of-55) from the field while Newell-Fonda shot 62 percent (23-of-37).

Owen Larson led ELC with 15 points, six assists, four steals and two blocked shots. Blake Ingvall had 13 points and 14 rebounds while Adrian Vaughn had 12 points.

Trey Jungers and Carter Sievers led Newell-Fonda with 21 points apiece.
