A funeral service for Ernest Leroy Poyzer, 61, of Estherville, Iowa, will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, May 21, at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville. Visitation will begin at 5 pm, Thursday, May 20, 2021, with the family present from 5-7 pm, at Henry-Olson Funeral Home. The family requests that masks be worn at both the visitation and funeral service.

Ernest Leroy Poyzer was born June 22, 1959 and later adopted at the age of 10 by Dean and Shirley Poyzer. In 1984, he was united in marriage to Dina Jaquias and the couple later divorced after having two kids. On June 22, 1992, he married Sandra K Prince in Estherville. Ernie worked at Estherville Foods for many years and then he worked at Rich’s Redemption Center, now known as Egeland’s Redemption. Ernie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake.

Ernie will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, strong willed, and his willingness to always help his family out. Ernie was most proud of his kids and their accomplishments. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially summer barbeques at his Dad’s lake home on East Okoboji Lake. For hobbies, he enjoyed watching wrestling, going out to eat, traveling, visiting family and friends, and fixing cars and other machinery projects.

He died on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 61.

Left to cherish Ernie’s loving memory are; daughter Julie Poyzer, son Joseph Poyzer and fiance Becky Bonilla and their boys Reynaldo and Rolando, step-daughter, Denise Slinger and husband Justin and child Chole, brother Greg and Deborah Poyzer and their son Christian, brother Alan and Connie Poyzer and Alan’s sons Timothy and Todd, and sister Rosie Anderson and Craig Papenfuhs (friend), her sons Kenny and his child Kiah, and James.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his wife Sandra K (Prince) Poyzer, cousin Jay Poyzer, and Uncle Don and wife.
