Gail N. Egeland passed away on July 24, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. He had just celebrated his 83rd birthday. A private family service will be held. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery, Wallingford.
Gail Norman Egeland, son of Norman and Annie (Paulson) Egeland was born on July 4, 1937 in Estherville Iowa.
Gail attended rural school across from the family farm, Wallingford Middle School and graduated from Estherville High School in 1955. He joined the National Guard in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1966.
Gail was a farmer his whole life. He rented out farms north of the home farm at Mallard, then he bought the home farm. He lived there until he moved to Windsor Manor. He was proud the home farm was a Century Farm.
He married Phyllis Rouse and had a son, Steve Egeland. They were also foster parents to many children; Stanly Powers was their longest foster child.
Gail married Jean (Henely) Mundus on November 14, 1998 and took her children as his own.
Gail is survived by his son, Steve (Beverly) Egeland; foster son, Stan Powers; step-children, Laura (Michael) Rose, Mike (Lisa) Mundus, Kim (Paul) Urness, and Matthew Mundus; his sisters, MaryAnn (Fred) Morfitt, Marlene (Curt) Jass, and Beverly (John) Anderson; and by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Mundus) Egeland, his parents, Norman and Annie (Paulson) Egeland, his sister, Marilyn (Eldon) Garrelts; his stepdaughter, Cindy Soenen and his grandparents.
