GT/RA’s Cacek wins TLC crown at 182 pounds

SAC CITY - Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire senior Treyton Cacek continued his perfect season by winning a Twin Lakes Conference title at 182 pounds on Monday.

Cacek, ranked first at 182 pounds in Class 1A, was one of five Titan wrestlers to place at the conference meet, which was rescheduled from Saturday due to inclement weather.

Cacek needed just a little more than 2 minutes of mat time to make the final. He pinned Pocahontas Area's Alex Welander in 1:07 in the quarterfinal and pinned Southeast Valley's Harley Bryson in 56 seconds in the semifinal.

In the final, Manson-Northwest Webster's Brodie Anderson pushed Cacek the full 6 minutes, but the Titan senior still won easily, 9-2.

Teammate Spencer Roth (160) was the only other GT/RA wrestler to make a final. Roth opened with a pin in 3:56 over Sioux Central's Brendan Baier and then won 6-0 over Thomas Melohn of Pocahontas Area in the semifinal.

That set up a final against South Central Calhoun's Blake McAlister, ranked seventh at 152 pounds in 1A. Roth is ranked fourth at 160. Roth fell behind 9-6 in the third period and a late penalty point and escape wasn't enough in the 9-8 loss, as he finished second.

Cade Stearns (120) had the next highest finish for GT/RA, placing third. Stearns pinned his quarterfinal opponent, but lost an 18-6 major decision in the semifinal. In the consolation round, Stearns came back with a pin and then won the third-place match 8-0 over Lucas Carter of Emmetsburg.

Cormick Currans (152) and Matteo Castiglione (220) both placed sixth.

GT/RA is on the road Friday and Saturday at the Herb Irgens Invitational hosted by Battle Creek-Ida Grove.
