Next week is Volunteer Appreciation Week. Individuals throughout the county who are too numerous to count volunteer their time to make a difference. Whether serving on boards, organizing local events, coaching kids in sports, or visiting elders at the care center, volunteers not only bring vibrancy to Estherville and Emmet County, they are also part of the reason the local area is such a strong community.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of any nonprofit organization. Without people giving their time to RSVP, Rotary, VFW/American Legion, Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Kiwanis, WaTanYe, PEO, the Emmet County Animal Shelter, Friends of Fort Defiance, CAASA, Avera Holy Family Hospital, Pack Away Hunger/Backpack Program, to churches, missions, social service projects, or for local performances and arts events, the community would go without, and be a lesser place for it. Volunteer firefighters and EMTs, police and sheriff's reserve officers go above and beyond to save lives. Those who give blood during the community blood drives do, too. We would sit at home instead of attending Relay for Life, Sweet Corn Days, or the Flight Breakfast without volunteers to put things on. So many volunteers are working behind the scenes to breathe into life those events that seem like they just happen.
Volunteers step up to make things happen, and we couldn't be more grateful for them.
Estherville and the surrounding area are fortunate to have so many people who have invested time in bettering the community and the live within that community. Speaking of bettering, we also give a shout out to the Armstrong Betterment Club, who brings us the Fourth of July parade, clean up projects, the upcoming Easter festivities, and so much more in the east part of the county.
Most volunteers expect no recognition or thanks in return for their investment of time and energy. Their passion for the work they do and belief in a better tomorrow drives them to give more and build up the community.
We say thank you for believing in the past, present and future of this place and our people and for wanting to make a difference. Thank you for sacrificing your time and talent to care for others and helping to support those organizations and events that benefit so many.
