Visitation for Helen J. Bergeson, 85, of Estherville, will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery, Estherville. Helen died Friday, April 2, 2021, at Mayo Health Clinic in Mankato, Minn., from complications following surgery.
Helen was born on June 28, 1935, in rural Jackson County, Minn., the daughter of John Jacob & Mary Della (Brott) Sangl, Jr.
She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1952. Following her graduation, she worked as a switchboard operator for Northwestern Bell in Spirit Lake.
On April 3, 1955, Helen married Robert C. Bergeson, at her parent’s home in Spirit Lake. Helen was a stay at home mother to her four children. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and flowers, reading anything and everything, sewing, camping as a young family, rock hunting, and car rides to watch the sun set.
She was a past member of the Estherville Garden Club.
Helen is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert Bergeson of Estherville; children, Della (Wayne) Lutterman of Sherburn, Minn., Alan (Ruth) Bergeson of Terril, Iowa, Dean (Beth) Bergeson of Milford, Iowa and Bill Bergeson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Lila (Bruce, deceased) Erickson of Clitherall, Minn., Roy (Sandy) Sangl of Shelbyville, Ind., Barbara (Larry) Sangl of Linn Grove, Iowa, and Joann (Jerry, deceased) Hanford of Elkhart, Ind.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, John & Mary Sangl, Jr.
