NU beat GHV in OT again

GARNER — For the second time this season, North Union and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura needed overtime to determine a winner. And for the second time, the Warriors came out on top, 53-52, for the victory to sweep the season series.

North Union won the first meeting on Jan. 8 in overtime, 46-39.

In Friday’s rematch, North Union raced out to a 14-3 first-quarter lead. The Cardinals stormed back over the next two periods, cutting the halftime deficit to six, 21-6, and then winning the third period 16-3 to take a 31-24 lead into the final frame. But the Warriors rallied to tie the game at 43-43 and then took an eight-point lead in overtime before holding off a GHV rally.

Stats for the Warriors were unavailable on Sunday.

North Union (14-6 overall) ends the regular season at Lake Mills today.

GHV pulls away from NU

GARNER — The North Union boys continue to show improvement this season. On Friday, the Warriors led 16-15 over host Garner-Hayfield-Ventura after the first quarter, but the hosts took control over the next two periods to secure a 65-49 victory. The Cardinals led 33-26 at halftime and 49-36 to start the final period.

Kevin Meyers led GHV with 17 points.

Stats for the Warriors were unavailable on Sunday.

North Union (2-16 overall, 2-13 in the Top of Iowa West Conference) ends the regular season today at Lake Mills. The Warriors go on the road for a Class 1A first-round game on Friday at West Bend-Mallard.

Titan girls end regular season

SIOUX RAPIDS — The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire girls ended the regular season with a 48-36 loss to Sioux Central on Friday.

The host Rebels led 15-4 after one quarter, 35-14 at halftime and 42-21 to start he final period.

Ally Hanson led GT/RA with nine points and five rebounds. Sierra Keuver had five points, six rebounds and three steals. Mercedes DePyper and Adri Krieger each had five points, Kate Sorenson had four, Mackenzie Hoffman and Macy Alderson each had three, and Josi Reiman had two.

GT/RA (3-17 overall, 1-8 in the Twin Lakes Conference) opens Class 1A postseason play against Storm Lake St. Mary’s (16-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Storm Lake. St. Mary’s won both regular season contests this season, winning 51-30 on Dec. 8, and 61-27 on Jan. 26.

Sioux Central cruises past GTRA

SIOUX RAPIDS — The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire boys lost 74-40 to Sioux Central on Friday. The Rebels led 25-6 after one quarter, 43-19 at halftime and 57-27 after three quarters. Connor Christian led Sioux Central with 21 points. Stats were unavailable Sunday for the Titans.

GT/RA (7-12 overall, 3-8 in the Twin Lakes Conference) is at Harris-Lake Park on Friday.
