RUTHVEN — Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Max Hough had a big Friday night for the second consecutive week.

After scoring six touchdowns the previous week—three rushing, three passing—the junior quarterback threw for six touchdowns and ran for another in a 56-46 victory over North Iowa last Friday. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

Hough completed 17-of-27 passes for 244 yards without an interception. He also ran the ball 18 times for 135 yards.

Drew Schnell caught six of those passes for 87 yards with three touchdown catches. Cormick Currans caught five passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Eric Heinrichs caught four passes for 36 yards and Blake Rosacker caught two passes for 21 yards and one touchdown.

In the first quarter, North Iowa and GT/RA were evenly matched. GT/RA struck first with a 21-yard pass from Hough to Schnell. North Iowa answered less than 20 second later to tie the game at 6-6 However Hough then scored his one rushing touchdown on a 60-yard run just six seconds later. He then passed to Heinrichs for the two-point conversion.

North Iowa scored once more in the quarter on a 12-yard line, but the Titans led 14-12 after 12 minutes of play.

The seesaw battle continued in the second quarter. Hough and Schnell connected on a 7-yard strike and Hough passed to Currans for the two-point conversion. North Iowa scored again and then Hough returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards.

North Iowa scored one more time, but continued to fail on two-point conversion attempts.

Hough and Rosacker connected on a 24-yard scoring strike with Hough passing to Schnell for the two-point conversion.

North Iowa scored with 1:19 left in the half. However GT/RA scored twice in the final 32 seconds—first on a 64-yard pass to Currans with Currans scoring the two-point conversion. Then Hough connected with Schnell on a 12-yard strike with Schnell also scoring the two-point conversion.

That gave GT/RA a 52-32 lead at halftime.

The scoring slowed in the second half. North Iowa had the lone score in the third quarter on a 58-yard pass play with a two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 52-40. GT/RA scored its final touchdown on an 11-yard pass from Hough to Currans. North Iowa scored one final time with 16 seconds remaining.

On the ground for the Titans, Nolan Darr had seven carries for 20 yards while Currans had six carries for minus 2 yards.

Defensively, Schnell and Jordan Saul each recovered fumbles for GT/RA.

Schnell led the defense with nine tackles while Hough had 7.5, Currans had 6.5 and Bryce Rosacker had six. Saul, Andrew Kral, and Clayton Schroeder each had a sack.

GT/RA (4-0 overall) has a short road trip this Friday to play West Bend-Mallard (1-3). The Wolverines lost last Friday 35-28 to Northwood-Kensett.
