Visitation for Jerald Lee Thompson, 79, of Estherville, was held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept, 30, 2023, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Oak Hill cemetery, Estherville, at a later date. Jerry passed away at his home on Sept. 26, 2023.
Jerald (Jerry) Thompson was born June 6, 1944, in Estherville to Cecil and Agnes (Bortvit) Thompson.
Jerry graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1962. He was united in marriage to Quint Ringham in 1963.They had two children, Jann and Jerry Lee. They later divorced.
In 1989, Jerry married Kathy Boggess Kinnetz. Jerry adopted Kathy’s sons Randy and Jerry. He worked at Super Value in Estherville and Olson’s Grocery in Spirit Lake.
He was meat manager at Super Value in Sheldon for 8 years. He returned to Estherville in 1974 and worked at Al’s Honda. He also worked at Montgomery Chevrolet, Roy’s Auto and retired as parts manager at Motor Inn Inc. in Estherville.
In his early years, Jerry loved snowmobiling. He found golf, which he loved and golfed until his failing health. He was a Chicago Bears and an Iowa State Cyclone fan.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Estherville, daughter Jann Knox of Winter Springs, FL, his son Randy (Stephanie) Thompson of Henderson, NV, his son Jerry (Gina) Thompson of Spirit Lake, IA; his brother Corliss (Sue) Thompson of Kansas City, MO, his sister, Barbara Waggie of Owatonna, MN; sisters-in-law, Mary Corwin of Melbourn, IA, Kay (Brian) Besaw of Estherville, and Sue (Tom) Koons of Estherville; special friends Ron Anderson and Roy Gage of Estherville. He had 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Lee, his parents, Cecil and Agnes Thompson and his in-laws, Woodrow and Iva Boggess.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
