Funeral services for Jim Lockrem, 76, of Dolliver, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville with the Rev. Russell D. Reimers officiating. On Monday, April 10, 2023, Odean James “Jim” Lockrem passed away at the age of 76 with his wife at his side, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, following a farm accident.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jim was born on December 18, 1946, in Decorah, Iowa, to Norman and Irma (Butz) Lockrem. He grew up in Thompson, Iowa, and graduated from Thompson High School in 1965. He was a star athlete in high school, playing football, basketball, and baseball. After high school, he attended Mason City Junior College for two years.

Jim married LuRae Bloomster in 1967 and they had two children, Lisa and Ryan. Jim enlisted in the Army and served in the Vietnam War, being discharged in 1971. He spent some time working with his father in the Agri bin business before moving to Swea City and engaging in farming. He was later employed by TG Industries in Armstrong and retired from there in 2013.

Jim married his soulmate, Kathy Ryan, in June 1990 and they moved to a farm near Dolliver, Iowa, where they lived happily with their beloved pets for 33 years before his passing.

Jim had many interests; early in life he had several horses and his daughter, Lisa, shared that interest. He also owned and flew his own plane when he lived in Swea City. His life-long passions, however, were hunting and fishing, restoring tractors and farming. He loved spending time with his family, especially attending the athletic events of his grandchildren. Jim had a great sense of humor and loved to tease and pull off a good prank now and then.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy; his daughter, Lisa DuBeau; son, Ryan (Holly) Lockrem; stepson, Chuck (Tiffany) Marlin; six grandchildren, Kennedy Geller, Landry DuBeau; Justice, Calvin, Gus and Liberty Lockrem; step-grandson, Oliver; his sister, Kay Crandall, and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brother-in-law, Marshall Crandall; and his cousin, Katie Lockrem.
