A celebration of life for John Junior Isder will be held at a later date

John Junior Isder the son of John and Katie (Kielman) Isder was born June 18, 1933 at home, in Swan Lake Township, Iowa. He died on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Accura Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa at the age of 89.

He received his education at Maple Hill, Iowa school. John served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On August 21, 1954, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Valen and to this union two children were born, Michael and Kay. John started his career in masonry as a brick layer. Through several business ventures, he eventually owned and operated Northwest Iowa Masonry where he specialized in building schools and churches. Over the course of his life he built three of his homes and extensively remodeled a fourth. For hobbies, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, snowmobiling and loved to hunt for asparagus and mushrooms. John enjoyed his winters at Enchanting Shores in Naples, Florida. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and Ducks Unlimited. He married Virginia “Ginger” Hageman on January 26, 2008. The couple made their home in Okoboji, Spirit Lake and Naples, Florida.

Left to cherish John’s memory are his wife, Ginger Hageman; children; Michael Isder of Rochester and his daughter, Morgan; Kay (Brad) Maurer of Spencer and their children, Chris (Kerri) Maurer and their son, Charlie and Ross Maurer; sister, Eunice Voigt; stepchildren, Mitch (Rhonda) Hageman; John (Sarah) Hageman; Joe (Sandra) Hageman and Danny Hageman and several nieces and nephews.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Elsie Wink, Jenny McLoughlin, Ernest Isder, Esther Bicknese and Irene Kielman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Iowa Great Lakes Trail System.
