CEDAR RAPIDS - The Iowa Lakes men saw their nine-game come to an end with a 91-84 loss to 16th-ranked Kirkwood on Saturday.

The Lakers, who had just entered the polls at 20th this past week, led 38-35 at half-time. However Kirkwood took the lead for good at 49-47 and then stretched its advantage to double digits until a 3-pointer by Justin Brookens in the closing seconds completed the final tally.

Brookens led Iowa Lakes with 29 points while Keshawn Pegues had 15 points and 12 boards. Dillon Carlson came off the bench to score 12 points. Kevin Cook had nine, Malcolm Clayton and Alan Kikwaki each had seven, Josh English had four and Xavier Evans had one.

Iowa Lakes (9-3 overall, 1-1 in the ICCAC) goes on the road to face Marshalltown on Wednesday.

"Typical conference game," said Iowa Lakes coach Troy Larson. "I don't think either team played great but it was a highly spirited competitive game, and we were fortunate to make a couple of plays down the stretch to win the game."

Brookens led Iowa Lakes with 23 points and five assists. Joining him in double figures was Malcolm Clayton with 15 points, and Keshawn Pegues with 14 points. Pegues and Kevin Cook led the Lakers in rebounding with eight boards.

Iowa Lakes shot very well from 3-point range, making 15-of-27 (55.6 percent), but finished 48 percent overall from the field (29-of-60). Six different Lakers hit at least one 3-pointer with Brookens shooting 5-of-10, Boston Grimes was 3-of-4, Clayton was 3-of-3, Dillon Carlson was 2-of-4, and Xavier Evans was 1-of-2.
