Marlene Lavon Moore, was born on May 5, 1940 in Estherville, Iowa to William G. and Lavon (Patterson) Moore.

Marlene attended and graduated from Riceville High School in 1958. Following graduation, she helped to care for her younger siblings, while her mother recouped from a miscarriage. After a short stay with her grandparents, where she learned about classes to obtain a nursing degree, she started classes at Estherville Junior College. Marlene finished her degree to be a Licensed Practical Nurse and began working at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. She remained there for a few years and then decided that the hospital wasn’t for her and moved to work at Rosewood Nursing Home. She thrived there and continued to work there for over 30 years. She enjoyed working the night shift but would often visit the residents during the day. Marlene loved to provide services to the elderly; following her retirement she would help feed the residents at mealtime at both Rosewood and Good Samaritan Nursing Homes.

Marlene was a loyal and faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Estherville. She enjoyed sharing her faith by visiting with many residents and church members. Marlene faithfully read her Bible and the Daily Bread every morning. Guiding her family and friends to believe and expand on their faith was one of her gifts. Marlene was the care giver to her family: when her mom was sick, she cared for her siblings, when her parents were elderly she took care of them, when her brother was struggling with his diabetes, she changed his and her lifestyles to be able to go off all medications for that. She truly had a servant’s heart and mind.

Marlene is survived by her siblings Larry Moore and Jane Moore of Estherville and many cousins and extended family.

Marlene is preceded in death by her parents William and Lavon Moore.
