A memorial visitation for Marlys J. Zieckler, 68, of Estherville, will be held from 4-6 p.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. She passed away on July 15, 2023, at her home in Estherville.
Marlys Jean Zieckler, the daughter of Gene and Sylvia (Cassem) Strube, was born on April 2, 1955, in Estherville, Iowa.
Marly graduated from Estherville High School in 1973 and continued her education at a beauty school in Des Moines.
She most recently worked for Dinner Date, moving up the ranks there over the last 10 years.
In her free time, Marly enjoyed crafting everything from wooden cutouts to painted pumpkins and bricks. She loved to garden, work with children, and listen to Elvis and all the “oldies.” Marly was also a faithful Jeopardy watcher. She was kind, caring, and never complained. Most of all, her grandson was the joy of her world. The two of them could build anything. If David could dream it, Marly could build it.
Marly is survived by her daughter, Tara Zieckler; grandson, David Barrett; brother, Gary (Katie) Strube; nephews, Kyle Strube and Kipp (RaLeah) Strube; sisters-in-law, Kay Maclay and Karen (Jon) Rasmussen; as well as her puppy, Maxx.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Sylvia (Cassem) Strube, her brother, Kevin Strube, sister, Jan Strube, and her life-partner, Joseph Adams.
