Funeral services for Mary A. Devine, 82, of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Paul Kelly officiating. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Estherville. Mary departed this life on Friday, January 7, 2022, at her home in Estherville, Iowa,.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Mary Alice Devine, the daughter of Burrell and Alice (Smith) Buren was born September 13, 1939, in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Mary received her education and graduated from Britt High School in 1957. She then attended Mason City Junior College and graduated in 1959 with her Associate of Arts Degree. She finalized her teaching degree at Drake University where she received her Bachelor of Science in education.  Mary continued her education throughout her teaching career receiving hours towards her Master’s Degree.

On June 18, 1960, she was united in marriage to Jerry Devine at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt, Iowa. The couple lived in Forest City, Colo, Iowa Falls, Ackley, and Estherville. Mary taught school for over 39 years and retired from teaching in 2000. Mary enjoyed gardening, reading, crafts, golf, music, and spending time with her grandchildren. Jerry died in 2016.

Mary was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville serving on the Ladies Auxiliary, Minister of Hospitality, Church and Choir boards. She also served on ISEA - NEA and local teachers’ organizations for 39 years. Mary was also an active member of the Estherville Garden Club.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her two children, Dan (Wendy) Devine of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Barb (Bob) Houseman of Estherville; four grandchildren Joshua (Laura) Devine, Jacob Devine, Michael (Emma) Houseman and Elle Houseman; one brother, John B. Buren of Britt, Iowa; brother-in-law, Donnie (Jeanne) Devine and sister-in-law, Judith Devine and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mary in death are her husband Gerald, parents and two brothers, Robert and Burrell Buren, brothers-in-law, Dick Devine, Dale Devine, and Don Gray, sisters-in-law, Emily Devine and Joan Gray.
