Funeral services for Mary Jo Huntley, 82, of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 26, 2021, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville. She died Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.
Mary Jo Huntley, the daughter of Clarence and Ruby (Medlicott) Huffman was born on Jan. 15, 1939, in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Mary Jo graduated from Sioux City High School before attending beauty school, graduating in 1960.
Mary Jo married Lonnie “Bud” Huntley on Dec. 16, 1961. The couple moved to Estherville where Mary Jo worked as a beautician at the Stylist downtown. She started her own business, Mary Jo’s Beauty Shop in the basement of the family home on Sixth Street in 1977.
Mary Jo was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church, the Ladies Guild, the church board, the VFW Auxiliary, was a Boy and Girl Scout leader, and helped with Meals on Wheels. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bridge, reading, visiting people, shopping, and her cats.
She loved her grandchildren, and kept up with everything they were involved in. Mary Jo was known and loved by many for her quiet and patient personality. She was extremely caring and always put others first. She was truly a special person, one of a kind.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband Lonnie “Bud” Huntley, Estherville; her children, Molly Jo (Eric) Anderson, Estherville, Lon “Sam” (Becky) Huntley, Smithville, Missouri, and Chad (Tami) Huntley, Gainsville, Georgia; her six grandchildren; her brother, Danny (Sue) Huffman, Grundy Center, Iowa and sister-in-law, Phyllis Huffman of Omaha, Nebraska.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ruby (Medlicott) Huffman, and her brother, Gene Huffman.
