Mavis Lucille Loewenberg, 98, of Estherville died Monday, July 6, 2020 at Windsor Manor in Estherville.

Private family services will be held.

Mavis Lucille Burgess was born in Armstrong, Iowa on April 8, 1922, the daughter of Edward and Lillian (Jones) Burgess.

She attended Armstrong schools and after graduation, worked at Quaker Oats in Armstrong.

On March 1, 1945, Mavis married Ervin Loewenberg in Fairmont, Minnesota. They farmed in the Ringsted area until moving to Estherville in 1968. She worked part-time at the Good Samaritan Home in the kitchen. They later moved to Rockwell City and then Nevada before returning to Estherville in 1982. In Rockwell City, she did custom drapery work which she continued in Estherville for many years.

Mavis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville where she served as a deacon in the past. She was also a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 3388.

As her family grew up, you could see her on a tractor helping with farming, planting a large garden, canning, cleaning chickens, walking beans, baking the best cinnamon rolls, cookies, and cake from scratch, making homemade noodles. She was always trying new recipes. She also found time to sew clothes for her children.

Mavis is survived by her five children, sons Terry and Marsha Loewenberg of Erie, Colorado; Roger and Kathy Loewenberg of Peosta, Iowa; Craig and Julie Loewenberg of Overland Park, Kansas; and daughters Gayle Loewenberg of Marshalltown, Iowa; Carol and Greg Logue of Algona, Iowa; five grandchildren Lisa Naig, Amanda Severson, Chris Loewenberg, Tanner Loewenberg, Jake Loewenberg; five great-grandchildren; Haley Naig, Hunter Naig, Lilly Loewenberg, Hayden Loewenberg, Gwen Loewenberg, Abigail Severson, Alexandria Severson; one sister Donna Grabianowski; two brothers-in-law, Arnold and Nancy Loewenberg of Cypress, California; James and Ellen Loewenberg of Edina, Minnesota plus several nieces and nephews.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Loewenberg; two grandchildren, Scott Naig, Christine Ludwig; parents; five brothers Gilbert Burgess, Arnold Burgess, LeRoy Burgess, Delbert Burgess, Byrl Burgess; two sisters, Bernada Skoge, Mary Alice Woody.

The family asks that memorials be directed to Windsor Manor, 2015 3rd Ave N, Estherville, or Kindred Hospice, 1370 Lake St, Spirit Lake.
