A two-run home run by Seth Busch in the third inning followed by a couple Spirit Lake errors and timely hitting helped Estherville Lincoln Central defeat its rival 9-6 on Tuesday.
ELC trailed 4-1 entering the third inning with all the momentum on Spirit Lake’s side. The Indians looked to add to the lead, loading the bases with two outs, but a fly-out to left field ended the threat.
In the bottom of the inning, Ryan Schiltz hit a one-out single and went to second on a failed pickoff attempt by Spirit Lake.
With two outs, Busch stepped to the plate and launched the ball over the left-center-field fence to cut the deficit to one, 4-3.
ELC continued to put pressure on the visitors, as Will Larson hit a grounder to third base and the throw popped out of the first baseman’s mitt.
