A memorial service for Phyllis A. Irish, 95, of Armstrong, was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at Global Methodist Church, Armstrong with Pastor Lyndon Roesler officiating. She passed away on August 15, 2023, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.
Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023 at the church in Armstrong.
Phyllis A. Irish was born on November 1, 1927, in Estherville, Iowa, to Glen and Creta (Brown) Pullen.
Phyllis graduated from Estherville High School in 1945. Following high school, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone company. She married Robert Tirevold on February 16, 1947, to this union five children were born, Alan, Tom, Barbara, Roger and Jim. After Robert’s passing in 1973, she married Bruce Irish on October 10, 1980.
Phyllis worked for the Lee Barnes Insurance Agency, Central Insurance Services and management of the Sanderson, Barnes, Ridout Law Office in Armstrong for four years. Later she worked in the Con-Ed office at ILCC for 14 years through RSVP.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Rug Group and funeral committee at the church, helped with Meals on Wheels, and volunteered with RSVP since 1994. In her free time, she knit mittens for head start through RSVP, reading and crocheting.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Barbara Halverson, Mesa, AZ, Roger (Mary) Tirevold, Armstrong, IA, and Jim (Vickie) Tirevold, Spencer, IA; daughters-in-law Linda Tirevold, Kennedaw, GA and Diana Tirevold, Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Glenn (Betsy) Irish and Connie Spohn; and sister-in-law Ida (Larry Duncan) Pullen.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Tirevold and Bruce Irish; sons, Alan and Tom Tirevold; a grandson Brian Tirevold; and two brothers, Robert Pullen and David Pullen.
