Rodney Hugh Brink, age 97, of Ames, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on September 22, 1928, in LeMars, Iowa, to Charles Brink and Alma Brink.
Rod graduated Estherville High School in 1946 and later attended the University of Iowa, earning a Bachelor’s Degree. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having enlisted on June 29, 1946, and honorably served until his discharge on June 2, 1948.
Rod owned Brink Oil Company in Estherville which he always loved as his hometown and moved to Ames with his wife in 1983. He worked for the Iowa Department of Revenue and volunteering across town for many years. He was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames.
He enjoyed his time at the cabin at Spirit Lake, Iowa. He enjoyed reading, riding his bike, and dancing with his late wife, Joyce (Rowan) Brink, creating fond memories together. Rod also took pleasure in family trips, Elderhostel adventures, and cruises making friends wherever they went.
Rod is survived by his children: Eric Brink (Gayle) of Genoa, NV; Scott Brink of Minnetonka, MN; Tom Brink (Chenyi) of Taipei, Taiwan; and Nancy Dickerson (Bob) of West Des Moines, Iowa. Additionally, he is survived by his cherished grandchildren: David Brink, Anne Brink, Jacqi Brink, Charlotte Brink, Andrew Dickerson, Nathan Dickerson, and Daniel Dickerson, cat Lucy, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce, his parents, and brother Paul Brink.
In accordance with his wishes, Rod chose to donate his body to the University of Iowa for the betterment of science. Further details regarding a future memorial service and burial will be conveyed at a later date.
