Sharon Kathleen Joy the daughter of Adrian and Josephine (Moneke) Joy was born June 5, 1940 in Sioux City, Iowa. She died on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Avera Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa at the age of 84.

Sharon was raised in Sioux City, moved to Park Rapids and then to Estherville when she was 15. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1958. Sharon met John “Jack” Andeits, when he came to Estherville as a professional baseball player, the couple was united in marriage on November 11, 1961 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. The couple later divorced, but remained best friends. Sharon was employed with Avera Holy Family Hospital in the business office for many years retiring in 2016. Sharon was recognized by the hospital for her strong work ethic and being kind to the patients, when she was name Employee of the Year in 2001 and won the Spirit of Stewardship Award in 2007.

Sharon’s granddaughters in Spirit Lake will always remember the crispy peanut butter grilled sandwiches she made after school, her homemade strawberry “Grammy jelly,” the nights spent at her house when their parents were away, driving her car for her, and seeing her wave from the kitchen window as they left. She also had a special place in her heart for their/her puppy, Alli Jo, always making sure she was well cared for-often slipping her bites of chicken breast right from the table. Britni, who lives in Illinois, is so thankful for Grammy and Bop doing special things for her while she lived with Sharon. Grammy will be very missed by these girls.

Sharon had a knack for making each and every family member feel special; leaving each of them with fond memories of Sharon’s endless supply of Ghirardelli chocolates and Deja Blue water. Every holiday she would send cards to her granddaughters and nieces, each with a few dollars tucked inside as a small but meaningful gesture of her love. Sharon had a very strong bond with her sisters and enjoyed daily phone calls with them.

Sharon was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and going to the summer theater. Sharon enjoyed a good round of golf, even winning her ladies’ league and being a club champion.

Left to cherish Sharon’s memory are her daughters, Susan McKinnon and Stephanie (Terry) Veldman both of Spirit Lake; granddaughters, Britni McKinnon; Mackenzie Veldman; Kieja Jo Veldman and Josephine “Joie” (Parker) Badding; siblings, Gary (Sharon) Joy; LeeAnn (Paul) Gersmeyer and Mary Jo Joy (Jamie Sonsini) and ex-husband and best friend Jack Andeits.
