Steven Lee Hansen was born December 1, 1947, to Hans and Evelyn [Eimers] Hansen, in Fairmont, MN. He graduated from Lincoln Central High School in 1966, served in the National Guard and was a member of the Estherville United Methodist Church.

Steve lived his whole life in Emmet County and farming was his passion ever since he could walk. It was the only job he ever wanted, and he started farming when he was still in high school. He was proud to pass the farming tradition on to his son.

Steve eventually found his way to the love of his life, Holly Hill. On December 7, 1978, they wed, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Since then, they have had 44 years of loving each other and holding the other up through life’s ups and downs.

Steve and Holly had three children, Aaron, Kara, and Elissa, along with his oldest, Shanna. Being a family man was an understatement, as he lived for his family. He held dear every moment he got to spend with them and made it known that he loved and was very proud of each of his children.

Steve had a bit of a wild streak and he loved anything with a motor he could make go faster. He cherished the time he spent working with his son Aaron on race cars, pickups, and tractors for pulling. He was an avid Vikings fan and loved watching NASCAR.

Eventually Steve and Holly decided to spend winters in Florida, and he always looked forward to warmer weather down south. He also looked forward to when friends and family could visit and enjoy the time on the beach with them. He loved watching the grandkids play in the sand.

Steve was an amazing storyteller, and his best stories would often be about the snowmobile and fishing trips he took with his friends. It could be said that Steve worked hard and played even harder.

Steve was a good man, a hard worker, and a loving husband and father. As with everything in his life, it was done on his terms, and this held true even up to the end.

We will miss the stories, laughs and great discussions. We will miss enjoying the beach with you and learning life lessons from you. And most of all, we will miss the wonderful person you were.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Hans and Evelyn Hansen. He is survived by his wife Holly, children Shanna Camp of Phoenix AZ, Aaron (Jessica) Hansen of Dolliver, Kara (Nate) Birks of Bettendorf, and Elissa (Brad) Sexe of Carroll, brother Leon (Janet) Hansen of Dolliver, Grandchildren, Aubree and Austin Hansen, Lily and Owen Birks, Evelyn Sexe, and Valerie and Charles Crisp.

Memorials may be directed to Avera At Home Hospice or the United Methodist Church both of Estherville.
