Titans’ season ends at sectional

MANSON — Eight of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire’s wrestlers placed at Saturday’s Class 1A Sectional in Manson on Saturday. However, none of the Titans finished in the top two to qualify for districts as their season came to an end.

Lucas Rouse (145) was the lone Titan to make it into the finals. Rouse reached the final by pinning West Bend-Mallard’s Logan Grimm in 3:14 in the semifinal. But Rouse then lost by fall to Anthony Durzao of Sioux Central. That forced the Titan wrestler into a wrestleback against Pocahontas Area’s Ryan Sommerlot and Rouse lost a 14-2 major decision. Rouse finished third and ends his senior season with a 14-14 record.

Jordan Saul (160) also finished third. Saul started the day by pinning North Union’s Kacey Hamsmith in 1:58 in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, Ian Kohnen of Manson-Northwest Webster shut out Saul 4-0. Saul came back in the third place match, pinning, West Bend-Mallard’s Ben Massner in 1:32. But Saul didn’t get a wrestleback as Kohnen lost in the final. Saul wraps up a 26-17 record for his sophomore season.

At 195 pounds, Connor Jensen lost a major decision, 10-1 to Brodie Anderson of MNW. With only three wrestlers in the bracket, Jensen did not get a wrestle-back and finished third. He wraps up a 16-6 senior campaign.

Three Titans finished fourth—Cormick Currans (152), Bryce Rosacker (170) and Nolan Darr (182).

After a pin in the quarterfinal, Currans lost his semifinal match 10-8 to MNW’s Christopher Kruger and then lost by fall in the third-place match. Currans finishes his junior season with a 30-14 record.
