Warriors come up with big win over Eagles

Von Bank and Jones lead NU with 13 points apiece

ARMSTRONG — The North Union girls picked up a big win last Thursday, Jan. 13, defeating Class 2A No. 7 West Hancock 48-39 in Top of Iowa West Conference play.

The two teams were tied 10-10 after one quarter with North Union taking a 22-21 at halftime and a 31-28 lead after three quarters.

The Warriors were helped by a strong performance at the free throw line, where they made 20-of-30 shots. North Union has been shooting under 50 percent from the foul line this season.

Olivia Von Bank and Naomi Jones led North Union with 13 points apiece. Von Bank made 9-of-10 from the free throw line while Jones was 4-of-5. Lily Henderson chipped in 11 points.

North Union (10-3 overall, 6-1 in the conference) was home Tuesday against Forest City. The Warriors will face West Hancock again this Friday on the Eagles’ home floor.
